Yӗllow Submarine - 1968

This film received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike - so says Wikipedia. I know someone who was 10 at the time and found it creepy. Link in comments.

Truly innovative animation and design, but the story's way too thin. Compare with a story-line from (say) Pixar. It's too episodic, lacks a driving narrative, there's little character, no real jeopardy, and nothing to engage the emotions (other than instinctive Blue Meanie Fear). But as eye candy, it's fantastic, and holds up well, not only as a period piece but also as an example of how imagination doesn't need computers to fly.

(Love the yellow sky here - much better than the original gray!)

Thanks for the this one, EdFray - I'll pass it along to the greatest Beatles fan/critic I know, my daughter. In her teens, as soon as she'd discovered the Fabs, she confiscated everything of theirs that I owned... and then, over several years, twisted my lovin' arm into regularly emptying my wallet and buying her original sixties' fab Beatles gear... which she also kept.
