ZARDOZ - 1974

After making DELIVERANCE John Boorman brought us this Sci-Fi film starring Sean Connery. The movie resists easy analysis which is to say we could argue about it for hours. Link in comments.

The LSG-MEDIA Lost Drive-In people had a lively and funny discussion about this film that you may enjoy a lot. It's not safe for work.

*Here it is*

This is great. I was able to take the audio from this to make a single file with added commentary using the version you uploaded earlier.

For those wanting to know how: use the free MKVToolNix GUI tool. Drag both the source files in and remove the duplicate video and chapter markings. Mark and name the commentary track, and then mux them to a MKV file. All done in < 1 minute.

Thanks for posting this.
I originally saw this on the big screen. Showing my age.
I bet Sean Connery doesn't have fond memories of it.
I thought it was crap then and haven't changed my opinion.
But 'so bad it's good' crap.
Hope it wasn't filmed in Winter.
OH yeah, after this came out, DC gave Superman a major villain who dressed in a copy of that costume.Came back a few times too.

Thanks

Thank you, La Musica. It IS good crap I agree. Supposedly Sean wanted to quit the James Bond franchise in a big final way and this was the solution. Later Sean did another James Bond film anyway.

Just wish there was a soundtrack recording of the music used in the film, as the score is excellent!

One could take the audio from the download and edit it down into something you like by using the free AUDACITY tool.

In 1974 Zardoz played 2-3 weeks at the theater where I worked. Despite it not being a good movie, it's entertaining, and it certainly provoked a reaction in the crowds who went to see it. There were always a few people who left mid-way through the film muttering as they crossed the lobby but the real joy for us ushers was listening to countless customers complaining about the film as they staggered towards the exit. I recently saw it, for the first time since 74, on tv and was reminded of its classic lines -- where else could you hear Sean Connery utter "the voice of the turtle is heard in the land" or "the gun is good, the p*n*s is evil"? Hey, as a Bond movie it's better than Robin & Marion.

Thanks for your wonderful account, Sitarswami. Could you describe the moment in the film when people would leave? Please?

A real SciFi classic! I remember seeing it on TV almost 50 years ago.. It wasn't in the theatres very long because everybody was probably expecting a james bond type of character from Connery.. But I really really liked it. Still do, 50 years later. But, it takes a few viewings to completely 'get it', and the cut scenes are helpful to fill in the gaps.. Unfortunately the studio insisted on so many cuts it's really hard to follow!

Now that I think about it, it wasn't TV I saw it but a small theatre.. a double bill or something with Tommy (?).
Anyways, I'm one of those that thought it was really good. It was different from everything else, and there wasn't much real science fiction out there in the theatres.

The movie of interest certainly could have been Tommy(1975).

as a ten year old in the 70s, I used to sneak down after the folks went to bed to catch whatever weirdness was on tv then. To see the floating stone head seriously dislodged me! I was hooked.
Seriously goofy film that is also seriously underrated. It's goofy façade prevents 99% of humans from looking under the hood... their loss! Get really stoned and grok it!
