DUNE - An Interview - 1983

David Lynch and Frank Herbert smugly discuss their film DUNE - before the disastrous previews and frantic re-editing of the film for theatrical release. We find Frank - having taken no spice himself - relaxed, and working on the script for the presumed sequel - which never happened...

There is a happy ending. A ten-hour edit of the film went to cable pleasing Dune piglets like myself.

Herbert's busting out all over... A week or so ago I found a long interview promoting the original Dune movie. A lot of it was Frank Herbert explaining his model of political affairs, and I was impressed enough to edit the audio down to that, add a slide show, and put it in the Archive. WAY beyond the indoctrinated fantasy world of Left and Right, Herbert viewed politics as a dynamic ecosystem of power in human affairs, repeating the same patterns throughout history.

If Part 2 is a success, maybe Villaneuve can do "Dune Messiah" justice.
