Mystery Men - 1999

I love this thing. If it lacks flow blame it on journeyman director Kinka Usher. Link in comments. This movie lost 35 Million dollars.

  1. Just for fun - guess how much money Mystery Men made for the investors.

  2. Great choice.

    Well ahead of its time.

    How much money?

    Just north of Zilch?

    A negative value?

  3. While I never ingest cannabis, I feel as if this movie would be fun if one were to do that. That is something that I would never do mind you. I was just thinking that it would be good if one were to, oh, I don't know, eat an edible or smoke a pipe full.

    Thanks for the post.

  7. While the idea was good the execution was not. A waste of a good cast.
Thank YOU for the post. You are the King, as usual.

  10. EdFray,

since you didn't answer the question,
[Mystery Men received generally positive reviews from critics, but was a box-office bomb, only making a little over $33 million worldwide against a $68 million budget. However, many avid fans of the superhero genre consider this as a cult classic.]

    So Minus $35 million.

This was what I expected. It's fun, but it's not faithful to Bob Burden's vision, which was hardly commercial anyway. Looks like an over-the-top vanity project - which explains the cast. Just totally indulgent, which is part of its charm.
Geoffrey Rush doesn't even bother to keep his 'accent' straight. He obviously considers it Rubbish and enjoyed himself picking up his cheque
I trust Bob Burden did well out it.
If you haven't read 'Flaming Carrot Comics' I think his work would appeal to you.
    Thanks again!

  12. Farquhar; I'm not finding those movies you named - my bad luck.

Everybody; How about ROBOT JOX next? It's on my blog already but most have been so lucky they never found it.
